My week-long stay at the World Heritage Hotel and Apartments (Dwarika Chhen) was terrific. The property is very rustic with modern amenities. The staff is highly attentive. The breakfast was excellent. Sitting in the lobby at a large plate glass window looking out onto the busy street was a perfect way to watch the city go by from a quiet, comfortable spot. The hotel is very conveniently located off the corner of Kathmandu's Durbar Square and the wonderful early morning Asan fruit and vegetable market. There are loads of local tea and food spots to enjoy just out the door to the left. The more touristy Thamel area is an easy 10 minute walk. My deluxe double room (the one in the hotel's pictures online) was very spacious. The room has no AC or heat, but my trip in November had excellent weather (52 to 75 F) and I was extremely comfortable. The shower in the room was very hot and cleansing after a day of work and adventuring - just give it 5 minutes to bring the hot water to the tap. Go all the way upstairs and enjoy an incredible view over the Durbar Square area! The staff arranged for taxi's as needed and were able to make some recommendations for different items I was looking for. Be prepared for a classically built property with loads of character and charm - it was just what I wanted.

It was a pleasure to stay in a wonderful old house. The owner and the staff are kind and always ready to help. The rooms are big and very nicely furnished, mine was really quiet. I travelled in winter time and I did not expect the heating (which was the case), it was not a problem for me but it is something to consider. Bathroom is simple. In other words, this hotel is for those who appreciate atmosphere over comfort of modern hotels. My room had no view but there is plenty of it from other sitting areas in the hotel - I really enjoyed seeing the temples and being immersed in the local atmosphere. The location is great, right round the corner from Durbar square and close to good dining options and shops. ONe can also eat righ in the hotel restaurant, I enjoyed the food.

It is a really beautiful place with so much attention to detail, all decorated in traditional style with nice big open spaces, you can enjoy tea or a meal in different areas like the restaurant, cafe, courtyard or garden. The staff are all very nice and friendly, location couldn’t be better just off Durbar Square and food was really tasty as well. It feels special to be in such a place, so peaceful and authentic yet in the very heart of the city.

If you want to stay in the heart of Kathmandu and not in the tourist-area of Thamel, this is the place to go. We love it. Our home away from home in Kathmandu, just 100 m from Durbar Square. A beautiful house and the staff is wonderful. 1000 thanks for the farewell-ceremony on the day we left. You are all wonderful, we love you. Thanks for all. We definitely will come back. Greatings from the dephts of our hearts, Sabine and Michael

This is an amazing place, especially if you like history: next to the Durbar, with a connecting door just behind the octagonal Krishna temple. An old Newari style house with courtyard and traditional locks on room doors. Hot water took a little while but everything worked fine, including wifi; drinking water was provided. Staff were very friendly and helpful -- thanks for a wonderful stay!
